The intent of windstorm mitigation is to create harder, more wind resistant homes and habitable buildings so that in the event of a windstorm, occupants are safer and the amount of damage to the home or building is reduced.
The process involves three steps: INSPECT, EDUCATE, INSURE. The first is a baseline inspection to document existing features on the home or habitable building that contribute to the hardness and wind resistance of the home. The second step is to recommend retrofit measures that will increase the hardness and wind resistance of the home. The third step involves submitting the inspection results to the property insurance carrier of the wind policy on the home. Certain windstorm mitigation credits may be applied based on the wind resistant features on the home.
Wind Mitigation Inspections quantify a home’s existing wind resistant features so the homeowner understands its wind resistance, and can make necessary changes to strengthen it before a storm hits.
Our Certified Wind Inspectors provide valuable recommendations on further strengthening the home against high force winds. Upon request, A DVD and newsletter are provided free of charge to equip you with valuable knowledge on improving a structure’s wind resistance.
A homeowner can present their completed Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (UMVIF) to their insurance agency for potential discounts on their homeowner’s windstorm insurance premium.
